This subject guide will help you find some quality sources for sociology projects.
Picking a Topic – Picking a topic is one of the harder parts of writing a research paper. Cornell University has a great list of sociology research topics to look over for ideas. San Jose State University also has a good list of sociology research topics to look through.
EBSCOhost – Our EBSCOhost database contains thousands of articles on sociology topics. Articles labelled “Academic Journal” in your search results are scholarly sources.
Britannica Academic – This online encyclopedia has general articles on topics relating to sociology. You could look up influential sociologists, sociological theories, or different social issues that relate to sociology (homelessness, drug use, hate crimes, etc.). Encyclopedias are good starting places to research but make sure to use other sources as well.
Points of View – This collection focuses on contentious social issues and the different perspectives around those issues. Topics like health care access, substance abuse, education funding, voting rights, women’s issues, etc. are covered in Points of View. This is a great area to look for ideas for topics. Points of View is located inside our EBSCO databases.
The Key to (Almost) Everything : Sociology for All of Us – This eBook has chapters that focus on different aspects of sociology. This would be a good place to start researching. This is in our EBSCO eBook collection.
Newspapers and Magazines – These are reliable but non-scholarly sources of information on sociology. Some examples are the NPR, the Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, the New York Times, US News, the Guardian, or BBC News. Use the search function on these sites to look for articles on your topics.
